Show Your Flowers Some Love

Receiving a perfect bouquet of beautiful blooms is like love at first sight—you'll want to make the feeling last. Worried a black thumb will ruin the relationship? Fret not; we tapped our designers to share their top tricks to keep your cut flowers fresher for longer.

Location, location, location

  • Cut flowers aren't the sun worshippers that they were in the ground. Keep arrangements out of direct sunlight and away from sources of heat.
  • A cool spot is key, but avoid air conditioning vents, as they can dry out the stems.
  • An entry table, dining table, or nightstand are all ideal spots for your arrangement to shine.

Time for a trim

  • Trim the stems to help your flowers hydrate more easily. More water = happier blooms.
  • Cut at an angle to maximize the surface area through which the stem can absorb water.
  • Kitchen shears, pruners, or a knife will work—just make sure they're sharp for a clean cut!
  • If you're using flowers from your garden, remove any thorns or foliage that will fall below the water line to avoid bacteria buildup.

Drink up!

  • Keep those beauties hydrated! Change or refill the vase water daily with tepid water.
  • Depending on the size of your arrangement, there are 3 ways to refresh the water:
    • Fully empty the vase and refill it with clean water
    • Use a small watering can to fill the vase back up to the top
    • Flush out the water by placing the arrangement in the sink and letting the water run
  • Note: All of our arrangements arrive pre-dosed with flower food—but if you're changing out the water every day, you don't even need it!

And there you have it! Follow these tips and tricks to help your flowers live their best life and keep that loving feeling going strong.
