About Winston - History
When Robert Winston and his teenaged son Maynard first wheeled their pushcart of flowers onto Boston's fashionable Newbury Street in 1944, they could not have foreseen that this humble enterprise would flourish and grow into a widely respected Boston institution.
It was Maynard Winston who helped the business evolve from pushcart to premier florist. Under his guidance, Winston Flowers made its name in Boston as a trendsetting Newbury Street boutique with the best designers and a blue-chip clientele. He emphasized innovation, hard work and service, and as owner, would not hesitate to hop on the T or walk up Beacon Hill to personally deliver flowers to a client. Acting on a tip from a Dutch employee, Maynard was also the first to import flowers directly, delighting Bostonians with exotic new varieties of freesias, lilacs and tulips flown in from Holland exclusively for Winston Flowers.
Today, our third-generation family-owned company is one of the nation's most highly regarded florists, with a worldwide online presence and six shops in and around Boston-including the one right where it all began, on Newbury Street.
With over 65 years' experience and a reputation for world-class floral artistry, memorable events, breathtaking plantscapes and unsurpassed service, Winston Flowers is not only one of Boston's oldest florists, we are Boston's freshest florist.
